Trojans and Computer Security
Watch Out! Trojans Can and Will Harm Your Computer!
A computer trojan, by definition, is anything that disguises a malicious program inside a seemingly harmless program that is usually free and of need to someone.
Remember the tale of the trojan horse and Troy? The same concept holds true for computer trojans.
A trojan itself is not usually harmful, it's what is inside the trojan that usually causes the problems.
Once installed, a trojan offers remote access to the host computer and/or performs malicious actions such as installing other malware, leaving backdoors (to gain access to your computer without your knowledge), erasing files, crashing your computer, etc.
Watch Out For:
- Free programs. Many of the free programs on the internet are spyware laden or trojans. Remember that programs take time to code and most people aren't willing to give away free time. They're looking for some type of compensation. Sadly, many times that is in the form of infecting your computer and stealing your information.
- Websites that require you to download software to view their material. Many times these 'viewers' are trojans or spyware
- Offers that look to good to be true. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Many times this is in the form of free versions of software that you would normally have to pay for. Instead of paying for the program, you're paying in the form of identity theft!
- Email attachments. If you don't recognize the sender of the attachment don't open it - no matter how enticing the email copy is! Many times these attachments are full of trojans - releasing spyware and viruses onto your computer.
How to Know if You Are Suffering From a Trojan
Infections from trojans can be very apparent, while other times you'll never know what is going on.
Here's a list of things to watch out for:
- Toolbars added or missing from your desktop or internet browser
- Programs opening or closing on their own
- Your desktop moving around or even flipping upside down
- Pop ups of advertisements
- Your computer operating very slowly or always seeming 'busy'
- Internet browser not opening or functioning properly
- Nothing abnormal. That's right. Even if you don't notice anything out of the ordinary you may still be suffering from a spyware laden trojan
My Recommendation
Trojans, spyware, viruses and other malicious code is everywhere on the internet today. It's almost impossible not to become infected.
Because of that, I set out to find solutions that were cheap, yet effective. I've spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours finding and testing viable solutions for my visitors.
If you want to stay protected and not become a victim to trojans please see my solutions page for my recommendations!
