The Dangers of Spyware, Adware and Malware

Spyware and Adware are Definitely on the Verge of Eruption

This is definitely an understated statement. It's actually an exponential spread of security-breaching software, or what is generically known as malware.

Adware is becoming omnipresent, while concealing stealth information-stealing code known as spyware. Thus, the importance of blocking such content that could threaten personal security is of the utmost importance.

Malware Defined

Generally speaking, malware is a name for all types of malicious software that propagate through the Internet. Their general purpose is to steal or destroy information and put computer systems and Internet services out of use.

Typically, adware and spyware fall under this category. They are the two fastest growth security threats to computers nowadays. Worms and trojans also fall under this category but have, for the most part, been replaced by adware and spyware.

Spyware

Spyware is what its name says: computer software that spies on users and steals their private information, such as login data or credit card numbers.

This information is then sent to the person that created the malicious software, in order to be used in all sorts of malicious actions. Most of these malicious programs are not easily detected. In fact, they are specially designed to stay out of sight.

Adware

Advertising software, or adware, is represented by those meaningless ads that always pop up inside your usual browser.

Ever wondered about their purpose? At the surface, they seem to successfully lower software prices, maybe even providing the user with relevant information. But often, dangerous code may be placed behind adware. In this way, while the user thinks that he sees just another annoying ad, the malicious code runs itself! So adware becomes the protecting wall of a more malicious type of software.

My Thoughts

Spyware and its veil, adware, are becoming more of a threat as users deny themselves their need of security and privacy.

If we continue to ignore all these malicious threats, we may become a victim without even knowing it.

Solutions

Solutions were built, some effective and some useless. Even the harassing adware may be blocked, but only if we want to protect our computers. Getting ready to remove spyware and adware is easier than ever, but only if you care enough about your personal information to remove it.
