Microsoft does their best when they release a new piece of software to ensure that software is free of any problems.
They check their software for stability, functionality, and security among other things. These tests can take quite some time considering the software that has well over a million lines of code. Knowing this, it's almost certain that there will be a few flaws.
The important thing is having the least amount of flaws. They do their best to correct the big problems prior to release. Though testing is carried out, Microsoft is normally unable to identify and remove all the small flaws prior to launch of a product.
Once the new software has been released, Microsoft continues to test the software and gain information from its users to weed out all the small problems that weren't find prior to release. That is why we must download and install security updates a few times a year.
While this ongoing testing is occurring, malware and virus creators are also testing for potential holes in the software. The creators of this malicious software are looking for holes so they can manipulate the software to work in their favor.
Microsoft offers a security bulletin board for its users to view know issues with the software. The bulletin board explains to the public they are aware of a particular problem and are working on a way to fix it.
Here's the problem... Spy-ware and virus vendors typically monitor these boards and create malicious software that takes advantage of the security breach, well before Microsoft can release a fix.......Sneaky isn't it!
Unfortunately, spy-ware is not the only problem for many computers. Other forms of malware and viruses can have just as much of an effect on your information as spy ware.
These threats can take control of your computer and imbeds itself in your computers registry. By doing this the malicious software can have full control over your system. It can watch over you and steal your credit card information, passwords and usernames to name just a few.
Typically this malicious code infects your computer via email, free software or unethical websites.
Protecting yourself from this malicious code is fairly simple:
Just updating Microsoft Windows is not enough! There are potentially hundreds of security breaches in Windows and waiting for an update from Microsoft is not enough!
You need to become proactive and purchase software to help protect your information while Microsoft fixes the breaches.
